1) How do I know if my animal needs to be adjusted?
There can be multiple signs that you animal needs chiropractic treatment. These include:
2) How many treatments will my animal need?
Just like every person, every animal responds differently to chiropractic. Usually it will take 2-3 treatments to resolve minor issues, but can take several more. For competition animals, especially horses, it is recommended, once major problems have been resolved, to keep the animal on a maintenance plan of once a month.
3) How much does it cost?
Due to the large area that Dr. Evans covers and the wide variety in animal size, prices vary. Contact us directly for pricing details.
4) I've heard that chiropractors want you to keep coming back, over and over. Does this happen with animal chiropractors?
We find that the general public is misinformed or simply does not understand how chiropractic works. One of the analogies that we like to use to explain how chiropractic works is changing the oil in your vehicle. It is recommended that the oil in your vehicle should be changed every 3000 miles. If the oil is not changed, the vehicle will run fine for awhile, and then may start making extra noises. If these noises are ignored, eventually the dirty oil will wear out the inside of the engine. Over time, there will be so much damage that the engine has to be replaced. Now, lets apply this to the body and chiropractic. The body is the vehicle, and chiropractic is the oil change. The body exhibits several signs and symptoms that warn us that its time for an oil change, such as pain, decreased range of motion, etc. These symptoms can be ignored for a long time, but eventually, just like the engine, the body will become damaged and not able to perform at the optimum level. Chiropractic is the body's oil change, keeping the spine aligned and moving properly. This allows the nervous system to function properly helping to avoid other more drastic treatments (i.e.- surgery, medication, etc).
5) How do I know that my animal chiropractor has the proper training?
CAUTION about using people who say they are "animal or equine chiropractors"
When trying to find an "animal or equine chiropractor", do your research. There are many people out there claiming they are an animal or equine chiropractor, but they may have no training or experience at all. They may have read something on the internet or watched their chiropractor work on their animals so they think they can do it too. Much caution and research should be done before you allow someone to adjust your animal. These untrained people can do more harm to your animal than good. The best way to ensure that your chiropractor has the proper training/experience is by using animal chiropractors certified by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA). These are actual doctors, either doctors of veterinary medicine or doctors of chiropractic, who have been through approved animal chiropractic courses (about 250 hours worth) and have passed the certification exam through the AVCA. Don't be fooled by someone telling you that they have been through a 'weekend seminar' (often less than 20 hours worth). Unfortunately, there are some people out there that are teaching weekend courses in animal chiropractic to lay people. These weekend courses are not enough to learn the art and science of chiropractic. Don't be fooled, for your animal's sake!!!!!!!
6) Does Dr. Evans treat people, and if so, how can I get scheduled?
YES, Dr. Evans treats people and recommends that riders should get adjusted regularly to ensure proper balance while riding. This in turn allows for your horse to be less sore and allows for your horse's adjustment to last longer. Dr. Evans can be contacted at Divine Spine Wellness Clinic for human chiropractic care.
